Formal City Public-Records Request
The City’s broader public-record policy is a different route. The current policy says requests must include the requester’s full physical address. It also says police reports processed through the formal public-record request process are currently charged at $25 per report.
The City specifically instructs requesters not to send payment until the Records Department notifies them.

Montgomery County Jail uses video visitation. Visitors should confirm current custody before registering or making travel plans.

The sheriff says mail received after an inmate departs Mac Sim Butler is stamped “Return to Sender, No longer here” and returned.
Books and Publications
The county’s published policy says inmates are not allowed ordinary magazines or hard-copy books. Books not available through the jail library may be sent directly from the publisher—not a seller—after administrative approval. The page says an approved family member may purchase up to two publications every six months per inmate.

What If the Montgomery Arrest Record Is Actually Someone Else?
The Sheriff’s Records and Identification Office provides a fingerprint-based correction route for disputed local arrest records.
The sheriff says fingerprint cards from each arrest at the county detention facility are maintained for identity verification. If an arrest appearing in the Sheriff’s local records is not yours, the office says it can fingerprint you and compare those prints with the prints maintained for that arrest.
If someone else used your name and information, the office says it can provide an official letter documenting what occurred after verification.

Important Limitation of the Sheriff’s Local Background Check
The sheriff says its local background check lists arrests maintained at the Montgomery County Detention Facility. It does not include municipal, statewide or nationwide information and does not provide court disposition information.
Use limitation: an inmate or mugshot search is not a compliant consumer background report and should not be used for employment, tenant, credit or insurance decisions.
When to Use the Alabama DOC Inmate Search
Alabama DOC is not the correct first search for a new Montgomery arrest. It becomes useful when the person may be incarcerated in the Alabama state prison system.
