The most important improvement over generic Arizona jail directories is showing what each county actually offers. “Online” does not mean every county provides mugshots, and “offline” does not mean custody information is unavailable.

“Sheriff direct” does not mean no records exist. It means the county does not currently provide the same stable, direct public roster experience as counties such as Pima, Yavapai or Yuma.
Important Differences Between Arizona County Jail Searches
Pima County: Current Custody Only
Pima County’s public inmate lookup says its roster contains only people currently in the custody of the Pima County Adult Detention Center. The county says it is updated regularly and includes sentenced inmates, people held for another jurisdiction, and people accused but not convicted of crimes.
Missing old Pima booking? A current-only roster is not evidence that the arrest never occurred. Move to jail-report or court-record routes for older records.
Yavapai County: Timestamp + John/Jane Doe Rule
Yavapai’s official last-name search displays an accuracy timestamp. It also warns that people booked as John or Jane Doe cannot post bail until they are properly identified through the YCSO detention fingerprint process.
Yuma County: More Search Filters Than Most Arizona Counties
Yuma allows users to search by name, subject number, booking number, custody status, booking-date range and housing facility. Results can also display scheduled release information.
Yuma timing caution: the Sheriff states that its public inmate web inquiry updates periodically and disclaims guarantees about accuracy. Treat scheduled release information as current system information, not a guaranteed release event.
Apache County: A Current-Custody Resource Exists
Apache County’s Sheriff page includes an “Inmates Currently in Custody” jail resource. The Sheriff also notes that the county can house prisoners for other county and tribal jurisdictions, so housing location and arrest jurisdiction are not always identical.
Graham County: Booking Roster Rather Than a Standard Search
Graham County’s Adult Detention resources link to a Sheriff Booking Roster rather than presenting the same interactive search format used by Yuma or Pima.
Navajo County: Use the Inmate Housing Report
Navajo County places its current housing list under the Sheriff’s Detention resources as an Inmate Housing Report. Its broader Inmate Information page covers jail mail, accounts, classification and other family services separately.
Arizona Counties Where Public Inmate or Mugshot Search Changed
Pinal County: Public Mugshot and Inmate Search Paused
Pinal County’s inmate-search notice says its public mugshot and inmate-search functions are paused following the county’s review of the Ninth Circuit decision in Houston v. Maricopa County.
The current Adult Detention page says users looking for court dates, bond amounts or other inmate services can call 520-509-7957 and follow the prompts. A separate offline mugshot-search notice also provides a public-inmate inquiry number, so the safest route is to begin from the current Adult Detention page rather than relying on an old saved deep link.
Cochise County: Mugshot & Inmate List Removed
Cochise County says that beginning September 9, 2024, the Sheriff’s Office stopped publishing its online “Mugshot” and “Inmate List” after legal review. Booking photographs also stopped accompanying ordinary Sheriff social-media and press releases under that notice.
Mohave County: Search Turned Off, Phone Still Works
Mohave County currently says its inmate-search tool is turned off. The county posts inmate information through Sheriff press releases and continues to provide direct jail information by phone.

Coconino County: No Online Inmate List
Coconino County states plainly that inmates are not listed on the county website.

Important legal-content rule: do not turn the Cochise, Mohave and Pinal changes into a blanket statement that Arizona “banned mugshots.” County publication practices differ and other counties still provide public inmate information.

Search the least amount of information needed
Start with surname or booking number where available. Overly specific searches can hide the correct record when spelling differs.
Match several identifiers
Compare booking number, age or date of birth, arrest date, facility, arresting agency and charge information.
Check every hold or custody line
A person can have another county case, federal matter, state transfer or tribal-jurisdiction issue that affects release.
Move to court records
Booking charges are not the final court outcome. Use the court case for later filings, hearings and disposition.

County Jail vs Tribal Detention in Arizona
Arizona has extensive tribal lands and multiple tribal justice systems. A detention occurring in Indian Country does not automatically create an ordinary county-jail record.
The Bureau of Indian Affairs Office of Justice Services oversees or directly operates correctional programs in Indian Country, while many detention facilities are operated by tribes through self-determination or self-governance arrangements.

BOP result says “Released” or “Not in BOP Custody”? That means the person is no longer in BOP custody; it does not prove the person is not in another criminal-justice or supervision system.
How to Check the Arizona Criminal Case After the Jail Search
Arizona Judicial Branch Public Access is a useful statewide starting point once you have the person’s name, date of birth or case number.
Public Access Does Not Include Every Arizona Case
The current statewide system reports case information from 177 of Arizona’s 184 courts. It also excludes or limits several record types, including sealed cases, Orders of Protection, certain mental-health and probate matters, victim/witness data and juvenile delinquency information.
Do not call a missing Public Access result proof that no case exists. The court itself says the online information may be incomplete, inaccurate or subject to change and is not the official court record.
Use eAccess for Many Superior Court Documents
Arizona eAccess provides online access to many Superior Court civil and criminal case records and documents. The statewide service generally covers qualifying cases filed on or after July 1, 2010; Pima County criminal eAccess availability begins with qualifying cases filed on or after July 1, 2015.
Restricted, sealed or otherwise protected documents are not available through eAccess, and document fees may apply.
How to Request an Arizona Jail or Arrest Record
Arizona does not have one county-jail public-record request office. Request the record from the sheriff, jail, police department or court that actually maintains it.

Pinal County operates a dedicated Sheriff’s Records Unit and request portal. Pima County offers a separate jail-report request route. Cochise County provides a Sheriff Public Records Request process.

For a crime victim, the correct notification route depends on the stage of the criminal case. After an offender is sentenced into Arizona state corrections, ADCRR Victim Services uses a Post-Conviction Notification Request process.

Coconino County states that inmates are not listed on its website. To check current housing, call the Coconino County Detention Facility at 928-226-5200 and choose option 1 for inmate information.

Mohave County currently says its online inmate-search tool is turned off to comply with legal requirements and court rulings. The Sheriff directs users to inmate information in press releases or to the detention facility for current custody, charge, bond and release questions.
