Search Arrest, Mugshot & Inmate Records by Name
Search by name and state for arrest, booking, mugshot, inmate, jail roster, prison, criminal and court-record search categories.
Independent records-search resource. This website is not a government agency, police department, sheriff's office, jail, prison or courthouse. Search coverage varies by source and jurisdiction. Some links may lead to third-party services, and compensation may be received when a partner service is used.
Check the Arrest, Custody and Court Trail
For a very recent Knoxville-area arrest, start with Knox County Sheriff’s 24-hour custody list. For someone who may still be held, move to the current inmate population search.
This page explains what Knox-specific booking and bond labels mean, which facility to contact, how visitation and inmate money work, where to verify court dates, and what to do when a photo or inmate record is missing.
Use the Right Knox County Search First
The most useful source depends on whether the arrest is brand new, the person is still in county custody, or the case has already moved into court or Tennessee state corrections.
Best sequence: 24-hour arrest list → current inmate population → bond/court verification → Tennessee FOIL only when state custody applies.
Knox County 24-Hour Arrests: What to Check
The official 24 Hours In Custody page is the strongest first source when the arrest happened very recently. The live list can contain a booking image plus identity, custody, bond and court-event fields.
Open the 24-hour custody list
Use KCSO before a third-party arrest gallery, old search result or social-media screenshot.
Match the name and date of birth
Do not treat a similar name or face as enough. Compare DOB and IDN when shown.
Read every document and charge line
A single person can have warrants, holds, probation-related entries and release orders at the same time.
Check bond line by line
A bond on one charge does not cancel a denied bond, agency hold or other restriction on another line.
Save the court date and division
Use those details to check the official Knox County court docket rather than guessing what happens next.
Same-day no result: arrest, transport, intake, fingerprinting, photographing and public website updates are separate steps. Recheck later or call Inmate Services when current custody must be confirmed urgently.
How to Search the Knox County Inmate Population
The current inmate page is the better source once your question becomes “is this person still in Knox County custody?” rather than simply “was this person recently arrested?”
Search the surname first
Use fewer fields initially so a wrong middle name, suffix or spelling does not hide the correct result.
Use A–Z surname browsing when needed
If spelling is uncertain, browsing by the first letter can be more useful than repeatedly guessing a full name.
Save the IDN
The Knox County IDN is useful when addressing inmate mail, discussing a record with Inmate Services or distinguishing common names.
Confirm present status before acting
A booking photo can remain relevant to an arrest even after the person’s custody status changes.
Official help: KCSO directs inmate-information questions to Inmate Services at 865-281-6700.
How to Read Knox County Booking and Bond Labels
The current KCSO roster uses abbreviations and document labels that can be easy to misread. Treat this table as a practical navigation aid, not a substitute for the court record.
| Roster wording | Practical reading | What to do next |
|---|---|---|
| IDN# | Knox County identifier associated with the inmate record. | Save it for jail contact, mail and record matching. |
| WARRANT | The listed custody or charge line is associated with a warrant entry. | Use the court docket for current legal status. |
| ATTACHMENT | A court-process notation associated with the listed matter. | Do not guess its legal effect; verify through the clerk or docket. |
| CAPIAS | A court-related process entry that can result in custody. | Check the underlying case and court division. |
| REBOOK | A rebooking or return-to-custody entry. | Do not automatically treat it as a completely new criminal case. |
| VOP | A probation-violation related notation. | Check the original court case and revocation activity. |
| HOLD FOR … AGENCY | Another agency or jurisdiction may have a custody interest. | Ask which agency placed the hold and whether transfer is expected. |
| TDOC INMATE | Tennessee Department of Correction custody is part of the record trail. | Use Tennessee FOIL when state-custody information is needed. |
| US MARSHAL INMATE | Federal custody authority is involved. | Do not assume ordinary Knox bond procedures answer the entire case. |
| CONDITIONAL RELEASE ORDER | A release-related court order with conditions is shown. | Confirm whether all conditions have actually been satisfied. |
| DUE OUT TIME | The roster displays an expected or scheduled release-related time. | Check for other holds before assuming physical release will occur exactly then. |
| ROR | Release-on-recognizance bond notation. | Still check other charges and release conditions. |
| APPEARANCE | An appearance-bond entry with an amount when one is set. | Verify amount and payment route before paying. |
| CASH | The listed item shows a cash-bond requirement. | Confirm the full amount and accepted payment location. |
| DENIED | Bond is denied on that listed item. | A separate bondable charge does not override this line. |
| NONE | No payable bond amount is displayed for that line. | Do not interpret it as automatic release; ask about the custody reason. |
Critical bond mistake: never add the visible bond amounts and assume that total guarantees release. Holds, denied bonds, conditional orders and separate cases can control the outcome.
Knox County Bond Payment Routes
The Criminal Court Clerk publishes different routes for bonding-company bonds, full-cash bonds and property bonds. Confirm the current amount and every case before choosing a payment route.
| Route | Current clerk guidance | User check |
|---|---|---|
| TN-resident bonding company | Maximum listed charge: 10% of set bond plus $37. | Confirm the bonding company and each active case. |
| Non-TN-resident bonding company | Maximum listed charge: 15% of set bond plus $37. | Ask whether another hold prevents release. |
| Full cash at jail | Full amount can be paid in cash at Knox County Jail or Roger D. Wilson Detention Facility. | Verify that cash bond is permitted on every controlling matter. |
| Clerk cashier counter | Full amount may be paid by cash, cashier’s check or money order. | Confirm office hours before going downtown. |
| Property bond | Property may be used when applicable. | Contact the clerk for current eligibility and documentation requirements. |
Scam check: do not send money from an unsolicited text, phone call or social account. Verify the inmate, case and payment instructions using the official jail or court source yourself.
Which Knox County Facility Should You Contact?
KCSO Corrections operates three facilities. Confirm the current facility before travelling, scheduling a visit or assuming that the downtown jail is where the person is physically housed.

Knox County Jail

Terminology tip: counties use names such as jail, detention center, corrections center or justice center for custody facilities. When another county uses unfamiliar facility wording, our justice center inmate-search guide explains how to identify the actual agency before searching.
Knox County Visitation: Current Instructions vs Older Policy PDF
KCSO’s current Corrections page says inmates are allowed two scheduled visits per week and publishes facility-specific schedules. It currently links users to CorrectPay for scheduling.
What the Official Policy PDF Still Helps Explain
The KCSO Personal and Professional Visits policy is a nine-page official PDF revised September 9, 2019. It provides useful policy-level context even though some vendor and pricing details in that older document are no longer safe to treat as current.
- Personal visits use video visitation
- On-site video visitation uses the Knox County Visitation Center
- The visitation center is at 5109 Maloneyville Road
- Valid driver’s license or state ID is required for on-site check-in
- Video visits can be recorded and monitored
- Visitors must follow clothing and conduct rules
- Personal contact visits are generally not the normal personal-visit method
- Facility and housing status affect scheduling
Do not use the old PDF for current vendor pricing: the older PDF contains JAILATM and $5.99 language, while the current live Corrections page links CorrectPay and contains newer as well as duplicated legacy account information. Use the live KCSO page immediately before scheduling or paying.
Before Your Visit
- Check that the inmate is still in Knox County custody
- Save the inmate’s IDN
- Confirm facility and housing information
- Use the live scheduling link shown by KCSO
- Check the current unit or side schedule
- Bring valid ID for an on-site kiosk visit
- Arrive early enough to complete check-in
- Do not assume an old saved vendor account is still the right one
Inmate Money, Mail and Property Micro-Help
KCSO publishes inmate account, mail and property instructions on its Corrections page. Confirm the inmate’s current status and IDN before sending anything.
Mail Format
Name of Inmate — include IDN
Unit Number, Pod Assignment
Roger D. Wilson Detention Facility
5001 Maloneyville Road
Knoxville, TN 37918
Money Orders and Cashier’s Checks
KCSO states that money orders and cashier’s checks are accepted by mail only and should be made payable to the Roger D. Wilson Detention Facility in care of the inmate’s name and IDN. Do not include a personal letter in the same envelope.
Do Not Publish a Fixed ATM Fee From the KCSO Page
The live Corrections page currently contains duplicated account-information blocks with different surcharge figures and both newer and legacy vendor references. That makes the final checkout screen and current KCSO link more reliable than copying one surcharge into an article.
- Confirm the inmate is still housed by KCSO
- Use the correct full name and IDN
- Start from KCSO’s live Corrections page
- Confirm the vendor before entering card details
- Review the final surcharge before approving payment
- Save the confirmation or receipt
Property and Released Funds
KCSO states that inmates may release personal property 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Money is released Monday through Friday during normal business hours and requires a Property Transfer Receipt.
Find the Knox County Court Date and Prepare for Court
The Knox County Criminal Court Clerk provides a searchable docket database for Criminal, Traffic and County Ordinance matters. Search using a date range together with a name or court division.
Use the Inmate Entry as Your Starting Clue
- Write down the listed court date
- Write down the court division
- Save any case-related identifier you can find
- Search the official docket
- Recheck before travelling because schedules can change
- Call the clerk for an important unresolved court-date question

Which Agency Should You Ask for the Arrest Record or Photo?
Do not automatically send every request to the Sheriff’s Office. The agency that created the police report, video, photo or booking record matters.
KCSO Incident Report Details
KCSO Support Services says an online incident-report request is free. In-person paper copies are currently listed at 15 cents per page, and the office asks users to allow approximately three working days for report production.
If you do not know the case number, provide as much specific information as possible: names, date and time, location and the type of incident.

If Knoxville Police Created the Record
The City of Knoxville public-record guide directs police reports, videos and photos to the Knoxville Police Department’s records process. Use that route when KPD—not KCSO—created the record you need.
Copyable Narrow Record Request
I am requesting the publicly releasable booking photograph and related booking or arrest record for [full legal name], associated with an arrest in Knox County, Tennessee on or about [date]. The IDN, booking, incident or case number is [number, if known]. Please advise whether your office holds the requested record, whether any restriction or redaction applies, and whether electronic delivery or copy fees are required.
No guaranteed mugshot release: the agency may not hold the photograph, may not publish it online or may be required to restrict or redact a record.
Why a Knox County Mugshot or Inmate Record May Be Missing
A missing result is a signal to change the search path, not proof that an arrest never occurred.
If the county or custody system is uncertain, our mugshot lookup guide explains how to identify the correct jail, sheriff, state DOC or federal source before repeating the name search.
When to Switch From Knox County to Tennessee FOIL
Tennessee FOIL is not the first place to check a fresh Knoxville arrest. It covers felony offenders currently or formerly in Tennessee Department of Correction custody or supervision.
FOIL Can Include
- Offender photo when available
- Current status
- Assigned location
- Offense information
- Sentence information
- Parole hearing information
- Release information
- Search by name, TDOC ID or State ID
Correct order: same-day Knox arrest → KCSO. Current Knox custody → KCSO. State felony custody or supervision → Tennessee FOIL.
What a Knox County Mugshot Cannot Prove
A booking image shows an intake-related event. It does not by itself establish guilt, conviction, final charges or present custody.
| Information | Useful for | Not enough for |
|---|---|---|
| Mugshot | Matching an available booking image to an entry | Proving guilt or conviction |
| 24-hour list | Very recent custody and booking activity | Final case outcome |
| Current population | Present listed Knox County custody | Complete criminal history |
| Court docket | Hearing and case follow-up | Guaranteed real-time jail location |
| FOIL | Tennessee felony offender custody or supervision | Every fresh county arrest |

Knox County TN Mugshot and Inmate FAQs
Where can I search Knox County TN mugshots and recent arrests?
Use the official Knox County Sheriff’s Office 24 Hours In Custody page for very recent bookings and the Inmate Population page for current county custody. Compare the name, date of birth, IDN, charges, bond information and court details before relying on a result.
What is the difference between Knox County 24 Hours In Custody and Inmate Population?
24 Hours In Custody focuses on very recent Knox County booking activity. Inmate Population is the broader current-custody lookup. A person may move from the recent list into current custody, be released, or be transferred.
What do ROR, appearance, cash, denied and none mean on a Knox County bond entry?
ROR generally indicates release on recognizance, Appearance indicates an appearance-bond entry, Cash indicates a cash-bond entry, Denied means bond is denied on that listed item, and None means no bond amount is shown for that item. Always review every charge and verify release conditions with the jail or court.
How do I verify a Knox County Tennessee bond before paying?
Check every charge and hold in the inmate record, then verify the current amount and payment method through the Knox County Criminal Court Clerk or the jail. One bondable charge does not guarantee release when another hold or denied bond exists.
Where are Knox County inmates housed?
Knox County Sheriff’s Office operates the Roger D. Wilson Detention Facility, Knox County Jail and Knox County Work Release Center. Confirm the current facility through the inmate record or Inmate Services before visiting or sending money.
How do I visit a Knox County inmate?
Confirm the inmate’s facility and housing information first. Knox County uses video visitation for personal visits and allows two scheduled visits per week. Review the current live KCSO Corrections page for the current scheduling vendor, housing schedule and visit instructions.
How do I find a Knox County criminal court date?
Use the Knox County Criminal Court Clerk Find My Court Date search. Select a date range and search by name or court division. Court information can change, so verify an important hearing before travelling.
Why is a Knox County inmate or mugshot missing?
The booking may still be processing, the name may be entered differently, the person may have been released or transferred, another agency may hold the person, or the record may be restricted or historical. Check both KCSO searches and then use the court or Tennessee FOIL system when appropriate.
Should I request a Knoxville police report from KCSO or Knoxville Police?
Use the agency that created the record. KCSO Support Services handles Knox County Sheriff’s Office incident records. Police reports, photos and videos created by the Knoxville Police Department should be requested through the City of Knoxville or KPD public-records route.
When should I use Tennessee FOIL instead of the Knox County jail search?
Use Tennessee FOIL when the person may be a felony offender currently or formerly under Tennessee Department of Correction custody or supervision. For a fresh Knox County arrest or current local jail question, start with KCSO.
