Why an Old Virginia Arrest or Charge May Now Be Missing
Virginia’s criminal-record sealing framework took effect July 1, 2026. This creates a new explanation for missing or changed public arrest and court information that older Riverside guides do not address.
What “sealed” means: Virginia law generally prohibits public access to records related to a qualifying sealed arrest, charge or conviction held by specified government record custodians, subject to statutory exceptions.
Do not infer innocence, guilt or erasure from a no-result. The record may be too new, released, transferred, corrected, sealed, restricted or simply unavailable in that particular public interface.
Riverside Does Not Give Release Dates to the General Public
Riverside’s FAQ says release information is not given to the general public. The inmate is notified and is responsible for telling friends or family about release plans.
Do Not Trust the Vendor Calendar by Itself
Riverside says all inmate visits are scheduled online, but it also explicitly warns that the booking system can offer dates or times that are not valid under the jail’s published schedule.
