Phoenix • Maricopa County official-record guide

Start With Custody — Then Follow the Case

A Phoenix arrest can move through several systems quickly. Phoenix Police may make the arrest, Maricopa County may process the booking and jail custody, and a Municipal, Justice or Superior Court may handle the case afterward.

This guide separates those systems so you can find a recent booking, check current custody, understand ITR and initial appearance, verify bond and release information, identify the correct court and request police records without relying on a recycled mugshot gallery.

PHOENIX ARREST → CASE PATH
MCSO Booking & custody Mugshot and inmate record START
ITR Intake & release Processing and movement TRACK
COURT Case & bond IA, hearings and outcome VERIFY
Quick answer

Which Phoenix Arrest Search Should You Use?

The quickest route is not one giant name search. Match your question to the government system that actually maintains that part of the record.

Need a booking photo? Start with the MCSO mugshot route for Maricopa County jail bookings.
Still in jail? Use MCSO inmate information and confirm the current detention status.
Bond or court date? Identify the correct Municipal, Justice or Superior Court after booking.
Need the police report? Use Phoenix Police Public Records when Phoenix Police created the incident record.

Best order: MCSO booking → current custody → ITR / initial appearance → bond or release conditions → correct court → police records if you need the incident-level documents.

Most important Phoenix distinction

Phoenix Police Does Not Operate the Maricopa County Jail Search

One arrest can create records at several agencies. Knowing which agency owns which record prevents wasted searches and wrong public-record requests.

Source Use it for Do not expect it to replace
Phoenix Police Police incident reports, photographs, body-camera media, interviews, surveillance video, 911 recordings and calls for service. MCSO inmate and jail mugshot information.
MCSO Maricopa County mugshot lookup, inmate information, jail locations, warrants and jail-related services. Every Phoenix Police investigative record.
ITR Intake, transfer and county jail release processing. A long-term housing-facility lookup.
Court Filed criminal cases, release conditions, hearings, warrants and later case results. Real-time jail housing information.

Mugshot shortcut: Phoenix Police directs mugshot questions to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, so do not spend time looking for a separate Phoenix Police jail-mugshot database.

Today’s booking intent

How to Check Someone Arrested in Phoenix Today

Very recent arrests can be confusing because arrest, transport, intake, booking and public database publication are separate events.

Use This Same-Day Search Order

  1. Confirm the arrest happened in Phoenix or another Maricopa County jurisdiction.
  2. Check the official MCSO mugshot route.
  3. Check current MCSO inmate information.
  4. Try a simpler name search if the full version fails.
  5. Allow for booking and intake processing when the arrest is extremely recent.
  6. Move to court information once a case becomes available.
  7. Use official phone contact if present custody must be confirmed urgently.

Phoenix Police Misdemeanor Booking Statistics Are Not a Person Search

Phoenix Police publishes monthly misdemeanor adult-booking statistics, but that dataset is designed for aggregate police data rather than looking up a named person’s booking photo or present jail status.

No result yet? a blank same-day search does not by itself prove that no arrest occurred. The person may still be in transport or intake, may have been cited and released, or may be under another agency’s custody.

For the broader difference between a current inmate roster, recent booking and released record, see our recently booked mugshots guide.

Major missing micro-intent

Where Phoenix Bookings and Releases Are Processed: ITR

The Maricopa County Intake, Transfer and Release facility is a central part of the county jail process and explains why the address connected to an arrest can change during the same custody episode.

Intake, Transfer & Release

2670 S. 28th Drive
Phoenix, AZ 85009

Open: 24 hours, Monday–Sunday

What ITR does

Processes intake functions, court-ordered self-surrenders and releases from the Maricopa County jail system.

Why it matters

ITR is also a transportation hub for movement through MCSO’s multi-jail detention system.

ITR Replaced the Old Central Intake Function at Fourth Avenue Jail

Do not assume that old online instructions sending every new arrestee to Fourth Avenue Jail still describe the modern intake workflow. ITR replaced the former Central Intake processing center.

ITR Is Not Necessarily the Person’s Long-Term Housing Jail

A person can be processed through ITR and later moved within the county detention system. That is why the current inmate record should be checked before travelling for a housing-related purpose.

All County Jail Releases Are Processed Through ITR

This is especially useful when a relative says “the bond was paid, but they are not outside yet.” Housing location, release authorization and actual release processing are not the same step.

ITR Has Courtrooms and Short-Term Beds

The facility includes four courtrooms and an attached short-term 512-bed facility, along with medical and mental-health services during the processing stage.

What happens after booking?

Initial Appearance, Release Conditions and Pretrial Services

The next important question after booking is often not “where is the mugshot?” but “what did the court decide about release?”

Initial Appearance Court Operates Around the Clock

Maricopa County’s Initial Appearance Court operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and handles felony and misdemeanor initial appearances on a recurring schedule throughout the day.

The Court Decides Release Conditions

At initial appearance, the court determines conditions that apply while the criminal case is pending. A cash bond is only one possible part of that decision.

Pretrial Services Gives the Court More Than a Charge List

Pretrial Services can provide criminal-history information and a validated Public Safety Assessment that considers risk of reoffending and likelihood of returning to court if released.

Release Can Include Conditions Without Traditional Jail Custody

Depending on the court order, conditions may include Pretrial Services supervision, drug or alcohol testing, no-contact restrictions, orders not to return to a location, or electronic monitoring.

Booked The detention system records the arrest and intake.
Initial Appearance The court addresses release conditions while the case is pending.
Pretrial A released defendant may still have substantial court-ordered restrictions.

Useful distinction: “released from jail” does not necessarily mean “no restrictions.” Court-ordered pretrial conditions can continue outside custody.

2026 scam-resistant guidance

How Maricopa County Criminal Bond Really Works

Maricopa County Superior Court has published a specific warning about criminals targeting relatives and friends of defendants with fake electronic bond-payment demands.

Where a Legitimate Criminal Bond Is Posted

Fourth Avenue Jail

Bond and Fine Room
201 S. 4th Avenue
Phoenix, AZ 85003

Northwest corner of the building.

Criminal Information Desk

602-506-8575

Use to independently verify criminal-process or bond information.

MCSO SIMS

602-876-0322

Official MCSO information contact cited by the Court.

Do Not Pay a Criminal Bond Through an Electronic Message

The Court states that MCSO criminal bonds are posted in person. A caller or text sender demanding Zelle, Venmo, Cash App, wire transfer or another electronic payment for immediate release is not describing the official criminal-bond process.

2026 bond scam alert: hang up, do not provide financial information, and independently call the Court or MCSO using a number obtained from an official government page.

Why Release Can Still Take Time After Payment

Even after a legitimate bond is properly posted, the official Court guidance says release processing may take up to 24 hours. Additional holds or release conditions can also affect what happens next.

What Happens to Bond Money?

Do not assume bond money is automatically returned after the first hearing. The Court explains that a bond generally remains tied to the case until it is resolved, and a failure to appear can cause forfeiture. When applicable, returned bond money is handled later through the court process.

Do not drive to the wrong building

ITR, Fourth Avenue Jail, Towers Jail and MCSO Headquarters

These Phoenix addresses serve different purposes. Seeing one of them in a Google result does not mean it is the correct destination for your task.

Location Address Why you may need it
ITR 2670 S. 28th Dr., Phoenix, AZ 85009 Intake, transfer, self-surrender and county jail release processing.
Fourth Avenue Jail 201 S. 4th Ave., Phoenix, AZ 85003 Official Bond and Fine Room for criminal bond posting.
Towers Jail 3127 W. Gibson Lane, Phoenix, AZ 85009 One MCSO housing facility; current official listing identifies male medium-security general-population housing.
MCSO Headquarters 550 W. Jackson, Phoenix, AZ 85003 Sheriff administrative headquarters; do not assume this is the correct jail, bond or release destination.

Before driving: search the current inmate record or confirm the service location first. Intake, housing, bond payment, headquarters and release processing are not interchangeable.

Court routing

Which Court Handles the Phoenix Arrest?

The arresting agency does not automatically tell you which court will show the case. Use the charge, citation and case paperwork to identify the court.

Court Typical role Important limitation
Phoenix Municipal Court Phoenix city traffic and non-traffic criminal misdemeanors, including matters up to Class 1 misdemeanor. Does not handle felony cases and does not handle tickets issued by MCSO.
Maricopa Justice Courts Limited-jurisdiction matters assigned to a Maricopa County Justice Court. Use the direct Justice Court system rather than assuming the statewide portal shows the full Justice Court population.
Maricopa Superior Court Felony criminal matters from initial appearance through later court proceedings and sentencing. The criminal court is not a live jail-housing system.

Check the Paperwork You Received

A citation, release document or court notice may already identify the court and appearance date. That is usually more useful than guessing based only on the police agency name.

Need a Phoenix Municipal Court Public Defender?

The Phoenix Public Defender’s Office says qualifying people charged with criminal misdemeanors in Phoenix Municipal Court may receive appointed representation through that office. Its published contact number is 602-262-1838.

Jurisdiction matters: the Phoenix Public Defender does not represent every defendant arrested in Phoenix; its office is tied to qualifying Phoenix Municipal Court matters.

Avoid a false “no case” result

Why Arizona Public Access May Miss a Phoenix Case

Arizona Judicial Branch Public Access is useful as a broader starting point, but it is not a perfect same-day or all-courts database.

The Statewide Search Is Not the Official Court Record

The Judicial Branch warns that online information may not be current, accurate or complete and should be verified with the court of record.

Updates Are Weekly — Not Real-Time

The statewide case lookup says case information is updated weekly. An urgent same-day Phoenix court question should therefore be checked directly with the responsible court.

Some Case Types Are Excluded

Sealed matters, certain protective-order information, mental-health and probate cases, victim and witness information and juvenile delinquency information are among the categories that are not publicly displayed through the general search.

Maricopa Coverage Is Partial in the Statewide Portal

The Judicial Branch’s unavailable-courts page states that Maricopa Superior Court displays only criminal cases through that statewide system, while Maricopa Justice Court coverage is also partial. Use the direct local court search when the statewide portal produces an unexpected blank result.

No result ≠ no case: confirm the correct court and use its direct database before concluding that a Phoenix or Maricopa criminal case does not exist.

How to Request Phoenix Police Reports, Photos, 911 Audio and Body-Camera Media

Once you need the police-created incident record rather than the county jail booking, move to Phoenix Police Public Records.

Current Phoenix Police Public Records Location

Public Records & Services Unit

100 W. Washington St.
Phoenix, AZ 85003

Public Hours

Monday–Friday
8:00 AM–4:00 PM
except holidays

Old-address warning: Phoenix Police Public Records officially relocated to 100 W. Washington St. and opened there March 30, 2026. Some older FAQ text inside the portal still references 1717 E. Grant Street, so use the current portal header and relocation notice before visiting or mailing documents.

Records You Can Request Through the Police Portal

  • Incident reports
  • Traffic crash reports
  • On-body camera audio and video
  • Photographs
  • Recorded interviews
  • Surveillance videos
  • 911 recordings
  • Calls for service

Remember: these are Phoenix Police-created records. For the county jail mugshot, Phoenix Police directs users to MCSO.

Date-sensitive 2026 information

Phoenix Police Records Fees: Current Portal vs Proposed September 2026 Changes

The City is in a fee-transition period. Do not copy a fee from an older search result without checking the current portal when you actually submit the request.

Fees Currently Listed in the Police Portal FAQ

Record type Currently listed portal fee
Some online requests $5 upfront portal convenience charge, subject to final adjustment or refund depending on the request.
Incident report $0.24 per page.
Traffic crash report $0.24 per page.
Body-camera audio/video $4.00.
Photographs $4.00.
Recorded interviews $4.00.
Surveillance video $4.00.
911 recordings $16.50.
Calls for service / crime statistics No charge in the current FAQ.

Proposed Changes Are Not Yet the Same as Current Fees

A City notice dated July 24, 2026 says Phoenix intends to consider a revised Police Public Records fee structure at a Council meeting on or after September 23, 2026.

Proposed item Proposal described by City notice
Non-commercial electronic documents Proposed to become free.
Printed non-commercial documents Proposed at $0.25 per page.
Commercial documents Proposed $10 flat fee plus $0.25 per page.
Primary video with medium blur Proposed to be free.
Supplemental video requiring standard redaction Proposed at $23 per 30 minutes of video reviewed.

Publication-safe rule: the September 2026 amounts above are proposals, not a statement that they are already in force. Check the Police portal after the Council consideration date before quoting a current fee.

Your own Phoenix record

Need a Phoenix Police Letter of Clearance?

A Letter of Clearance is different from looking up someone else’s county jail mugshot. Phoenix Police publishes a separate process that requires a completed form, fingerprints and valid government-issued photo identification.

Current Processing Information Listed by the Police Portal

No arrest record found Portal FAQ currently lists approximately 7 business days and an $8.50 fee.
Arrest record found Portal FAQ currently lists approximately 6–8 weeks and a $28 fee.
Address caution Because the records office moved in 2026, verify the current mailing/drop-off address before sending the packet.
Warrant ≠ booking

How to Check a Maricopa County Warrant Without Confusing It With Jail Custody

A warrant can exist before a person is arrested. A jail record can exist after a warrant has been served. Treat the searches separately.

Warrant search Answers whether warrant information is available through the responsible system.
Mugshot search Answers whether a booking photograph is publicly available for the custody event.
Current inmate search Answers whether the person is presently listed in the county detention system.

Do not pay a caller to “clear” a warrant: verify the issuing court and follow that court’s official resolution instructions.

No mugshot found

Why a Phoenix Booking or Mugshot May Be Missing

A blank result can have several explanations. Use the likely cause to decide which official source to check next.

Arrest is extremely recent Transport and intake may still be underway. Recheck the MCSO booking and inmate routes.
Name does not match exactly Try a simpler name search and remove uncertain middle names, punctuation or suffixes.
Cited and released Not every police arrest or citation produces continued county jail custody.
Released after booking Move from the current inmate question into court records and available arrest records.
Transferred within the jail system Check current housing rather than relying on the first facility associated with intake.
Another jurisdiction has custody The Phoenix metro area contains multiple cities and agencies. Confirm the arresting jurisdiction.
Moved to state prison Use ADCRR inmate data when Arizona state custody now fits the case timeline.
Old arrest / photo unavailable Use police or sheriff records plus the correct court rather than assuming an old image must remain searchable online.
Historical or unavailable photo

How to Request the Right Phoenix Arrest Record

A narrow request is easier to route than asking an agency for “everything about this person.” Identify whether you need the booking record or the police incident record first.

MCSO booking record Use MCSO when the requested item belongs to the county detention or sheriff record.
Phoenix Police incident record Use the Phoenix Police portal for records created by Phoenix Police.
Court record Use the responsible court for filed case events and later outcome information.

Copyable Narrow Record Request

I am requesting the publicly releasable booking photograph and related booking or arrest record for [full legal name], associated with an arrest in Phoenix or Maricopa County, Arizona on or about [date]. The booking, report or court case number is [number, if known]. Please advise whether your office maintains the requested record, whether any restriction or redaction applies, and what current fees apply to electronic delivery.

Family visit planning

How to Avoid Visiting the Wrong Maricopa County Jail

Because defendants can move between intake and housing locations, check current custody and facility information immediately before planning a visit.

1

Confirm current MCSO custody

Do not schedule from an old screenshot or a booking page that may no longer reflect current housing.

2

Confirm the facility

ITR, Towers and other detention locations have different functions.

3

Open the live MCSO visitation instructions

Use the current Sheriff’s page for scheduling, eligibility, identification and technology instructions.

4

Recheck custody before the visit

A release or transfer can make an earlier visitation plan obsolete.

Freshness rule: use the live MCSO page for current visitation rules rather than an old PDF, screenshot or third-party jail directory.

Money and communication

Before Sending Money or Setting Up Inmate Calls

Custody can change quickly after a Phoenix arrest. Confirm that the person remains in the Maricopa County system before paying a service provider.

  • Confirm current MCSO custody
  • Verify the correct inmate identity
  • Start from an official MCSO services page
  • Confirm the currently linked provider
  • Review transaction fees before payment
  • Save your confirmation or receipt
  • Do not use an unsolicited payment link
  • Recheck release or transfer status if a transaction fails
County jail vs state prison

When to Switch From MCSO to Arizona ADCRR

A fresh Phoenix arrest belongs in the local booking and court workflow first. Arizona Department of Corrections inmate data becomes relevant when the person is in state-prison custody.

Your situation Correct first source
Fresh Phoenix arrest MCSO booking and inmate information.
Current Maricopa County detainee MCSO current custody and jail services.
Arizona state prisoner ADCRR Inmate Data Search.
Need the court outcome Responsible Municipal, Justice or Superior Court.

Do not confuse projected dates with guaranteed release: state-custody information and county-jail release processing are separate systems and may change as legal or administrative circumstances change.

Stop treating every record as the same thing

Mugshot vs Booking vs Police Report vs Court Case

The most helpful Phoenix search is one that knows when to stop looking for another photograph and move to the next official record layer.

Record What it helps answer What it cannot prove by itself
Mugshot Whether a booking photograph is associated with the intake event. Guilt, conviction or present custody.
Booking record Jail intake, custody and available booking details. The final filed charge or court outcome.
Police report What the investigating or arresting agency documented. That every allegation was proven in court.
Initial Appearance order Release conditions at an early stage of the criminal case. The final disposition.
Court docket Filed case events, hearings and later case movement. Real-time jail housing.
ADCRR result Arizona state-corrections custody information. Every fresh Phoenix or Maricopa County arrest.

For a broader explanation of how booking photos, arrests, custody records and court records fit together, use our mugshots and arrests guide.

Accuracy before sharing

A Phoenix Mugshot Is Not a Complete Background Check

A booking-photo result can be accurate about the fact that an intake event occurred and still be incomplete about everything that happened afterward.

  • Verify the correct person
  • Verify the booking date
  • Check current custody separately
  • Check the correct court
  • Look for later charge changes
  • Do not treat arrest as conviction
  • Do not repost an old photo as a new arrest
  • Respect sealed or restricted information
  • Do not use name-only matches
  • Do not use this site for regulated screening
Final verification

Before You Trust a Phoenix Arrest Record

Run through this checklist before paying money, travelling to a jail, sharing a booking photo or treating an arrest record as current.

  • I confirmed Phoenix / Maricopa County is the correct jurisdiction.
  • I started with an official MCSO source.
  • I matched more than the person’s face or name.
  • I checked current custody separately from the mugshot.
  • I understand that ITR handles county release processing.
  • I checked initial-appearance or release-condition information when relevant.
  • I verified criminal bond information before paying.
  • I did not respond to an electronic bond-payment demand.
  • I identified the correct Municipal, Justice or Superior Court.
  • I did not rely solely on Arizona’s weekly statewide court search.
  • I used the current 100 W. Washington Police Records location.
  • I verified the current records fee before submitting.
  • I used ADCRR only when state custody applies.
  • I did not treat arrest as proof of guilt.
Common Phoenix search questions

Phoenix AZ Mugshot and Recent Arrest FAQs

Where can I search Phoenix AZ mugshots and current inmates?

Start with the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office mugshot and inmate resources. Phoenix Police may make an arrest, but MCSO operates the county detention system used for Maricopa County jail bookings. Verify current custody separately from the booking photograph.

How do I find someone arrested in Phoenix today?

Check MCSO booking and inmate information first. If a very recent arrest is not visible, allow for transport and intake processing and recheck. A missing same-day result does not by itself prove that no arrest occurred.

What is the Maricopa County ITR facility?

The Intake, Transfer and Release facility at 2670 South 28th Drive in Phoenix is a 24-hour detention processing center. It handles intake functions, self-surrenders and all releases from the Maricopa County jail system, and serves as a transportation hub between county jails.

What happens at a Maricopa County initial appearance?

At initial appearance, the court determines release conditions while charges are pending. Pretrial Services can provide criminal-history and risk-assessment information to the court. Conditions can include supervision, testing, no-contact restrictions or electronic monitoring.

How do I pay a criminal bond in Maricopa County?

Maricopa County criminal bonds are posted in person through MCSO at the Fourth Avenue Jail Bond and Fine Room, 201 South 4th Avenue in Phoenix. Official court guidance says criminal bond payments are not requested by phone, text, email, Zelle, Venmo, Cash App or wire transfer.

How long can release take after a Maricopa County bond is paid?

Maricopa County Superior Court states that release processing may take up to 24 hours after bond is properly posted. Other holds or release conditions can affect whether and when a person is released.

Which court should I search after a Phoenix arrest?

Phoenix Municipal Court handles city misdemeanor and traffic matters but not felonies. Maricopa County Justice Courts handle qualifying limited-jurisdiction matters, while felony criminal cases are handled by Maricopa County Superior Court. Use the paperwork or case information to identify the correct court.

How do I request a Phoenix Police arrest report, photograph or body-camera video?

Use the Phoenix Police Public Records portal for police-created incident reports, photographs, body-camera media, recorded interviews, surveillance video, 911 recordings and calls for service. For jail mugshots, Phoenix Police directs users to MCSO.

Why is a Phoenix mugshot or inmate record missing?

The booking may still be processing, the person may have been released or transferred, the search name may differ, another jurisdiction may hold the person, the photograph may not be publicly displayed, or the person may have moved into Arizona state custody.

Does a Phoenix mugshot prove someone was convicted?

No. A mugshot or booking entry documents an arrest or custody event. It does not prove guilt, conviction, final charges or current custody. Check the appropriate court record for what happened after booking.
