Miami-Dade County custody & booking guide

Miami-Dade Mugshots: Official Inmate Search & Booking Photos

Use Miami-Dade Corrections and Rehabilitation’s official inmate search first when you need a current mugshot, jail number, booking date, charges, bond amount or custody location.

This independent guide explains what the county search shows, how to verify the correct person, what happens during booking, and which official service to use next for release, court records, visitation, mail, money or public records.

Best first sourceMDCR In-Custody Search
Main inmate line786-263-7000
Release line786-263-5360
Key identifierJail number

Before you rely on a mugshot: a booking photo, arrest entry, charge or bond amount is not a conviction. Verify identity with several matching details and check the court record when the outcome matters. Jail-Mugshots.org is not affiliated with Miami-Dade County, MDCR, the Sheriff, the Clerk, or any government agency.

02 · Read the record

What the Miami-Dade Inmate Result Can Tell You

The official county result combines several fields that should be read together. A mugshot answers “what booking photo is attached to this custody record?” It does not answer whether the person was convicted or what eventually happened in court.

Miami-Dade inmate-search fields and how to use them
FieldWhat it helps confirmImportant limit
NameThe booked identity used by the jail system.Different people can share the same name.
Date of birthA stronger identity match for a common name.Still compare other identifiers.
MugshotThe booking image associated with the record.A photo is not proof of guilt or current case outcome.
Jail numberA useful MDCR identifier for follow-up services.Do not confuse it with a court case number.
LocationWhere MDCR lists the person in custody.Housing can change after the record is viewed.
ChargesCharges recorded in the jail system.Charges can be amended, dismissed or resolved later.
Bond amountA listed bond amount when applicable.A displayed amount does not guarantee immediate release.
Booking date/timeWhen the county recorded the booking event.Booking time is not the same as arrest or release time.

If you are comparing a current booking with an old web result, prioritize the government page. Older screenshots and reposted mugshots may remain online after release or after the court case changes.

03 · Booking process

What Happens After a Miami-Dade Arrest

Miami-Dade says people being processed through MDCR are transported to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, commonly called TGK, at 7000 NW 41st Street in Miami.

During booking, staff verify identity and personal information, take fingerprints and photographs, perform medical and mental-health screening, inventory personal property, enter charges, determine housing/classification and set bond information when applicable.

Why a mugshot may not appear immediately

MDCR says booking can take several hours depending on intake volume and individual circumstances. Bond information may also be unavailable while booking is still in progress.

For a very recent arrest, a no-result page can therefore mean processing is not complete rather than that no arrest occurred.

The county also states that loved ones have access to free phone calls during booking. Once release processing is complete, MDCR directs releases to the area in front of TGK near the “Inmate Release Area” signage.

04 · Troubleshooting

What to Do If the Miami-Dade Search Shows No Mugshot or No Result

A missing result is not enough to conclude that a person was never arrested. Work through the likely explanations in order.

Very recent arrestBooking may still be underway. Recheck the official search and use the TGK Information Desk for current processing questions.
Name mismatchTry the legal surname, a first initial, spelling variations, or a known legal name rather than a nickname.
Already releasedThe in-custody search is designed for current custody. Use release information and the Clerk’s criminal case search for follow-up.
Transferred or state custodyIf the person has moved into Florida state prison or supervision, use the Florida Department of Corrections Offender Search instead.
Federal custodyUse the Federal Bureau of Prisons locator for BOP custody. Miami-Dade’s county search is not a federal locator.
Wrong agencyAn arrest inside Miami-Dade can involve a municipal, state, federal or other law-enforcement agency. The correct records custodian may differ.

Identity rule: do not publish or accuse someone based on a similar face or a same-name result. Match multiple objective identifiers and use court records when legal disposition matters.

05 · Bond & release

How to Check Miami-Dade Bond and Release Information

Start with the bond field on the inmate result, then confirm current information before paying. MDCR lists 786-263-7000 for inmate information and bond questions.

The county describes several release routes, including posting bond, qualifying for pretrial release or being released as a result of a court hearing. A bond listing by itself does not establish the exact release time.

Before posting bond

  • Confirm the person’s full name and jail number.
  • Confirm the current bond amount.
  • Confirm that the person is eligible for release.
  • Check whether another hold, case or processing requirement may affect release.

Miami-Dade says cash bond may be paid in person through TouchPay at the facility, while a licensed bail bond agent can post a surety bond for a fee. MDCR does not recommend a particular bondsman.

Release timing: the county warns that release can still take several hours after bond is posted or charges are satisfied because booking, court processing, payment processing and release scheduling all affect timing.

MDCR identifies TGK as the designated release center and publishes a general release window of 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. For a specific person, call the Release line at 786-263-5360 or inmate information before making travel plans.

06 · Court follow-up

Use the Miami-Dade Clerk to Check What Happened in Court

Jail records and court records serve different purposes. MDCR shows custody and booking information. The Miami-Dade Clerk of the Court and Comptroller provides the criminal-court search for felony and misdemeanor cases and offers certified copies when an official court document is needed.

Practical court follow-up

  1. Copy the booked name and jail number from the MDCR result.
  2. Open the Miami-Dade Criminal Justice Online Case Search.
  3. Use the available search fields to locate the matching criminal case.
  4. Compare the defendant, case information and docket entries before assuming the jail charge is the final charge.
  5. When a formal record is required, use the Clerk’s criminal certified-copy process.

The Clerk says certified criminal-case copies may be ordered online, by mail or by email. Fees apply, and an additional search fee can apply when the year or case number is unknown.

For general criminal court information, the Clerk lists 305-275-1155. This is the better route for questions about the court record; MDCR remains the better route for jail custody and release operations.

07 · Facilities & map

Miami-Dade Detention Facilities and the TGK Booking Location

The location field in the inmate search matters because MDCR operates more than one detention facility. Check the current location before calling or traveling.

Address: 7000 NW 41st Street, Miami, FL 33166. MDCR lists TGK’s Information Desk at 786-263-5550 for inmate location, bond, visiting and general questions.

Open TGK directions in Google Maps. Confirm the person’s current facility and the service you need before traveling; a map pin does not confirm custody or release status.

08 · Contact & communication

Miami-Dade Visitation, Inmate Mail and Phone Calls

Remote video visitation

MDCR currently describes remote video visitation as its standard service for friends, family and professional visitors. Friends and family must be on the inmate’s Approved Master Visitation List, then register with the linked GTL visitation system.

The county says to allow up to 24 hours for registration processing. For visitation questions, MDCR lists 786-263-4119.

Inmate mail

Miami-Dade requires inmate mail to be sent through the United States Postal Service. The envelope and letter must follow the county’s current mail rules, and the address must include the inmate’s full name and jail number.

Digital mail center address:
Inmate full name + jail number
Miami-Dade Corrections and Rehabilitation Department
PO BOX 20527
Tampa, FL 33622

Check the official mail rules before sending anything because prohibited materials and formatting restrictions are specific.

Phone calls and eMessaging

Inmates cannot receive incoming calls. MDCR directs friends and family to its approved prepaid calling route. The county lists Securus customer service at 1-800-844-6591 and automated/customer support at 972-734-1111.

Electronic messages and attachments are subject to monitoring and review. Follow the current MDCR and service-provider rules rather than relying on old instructions from an unofficial page.

09 · Money & commissary

How to Add Money or Send Commissary Items

Trust-account deposits through TouchPay

Miami-Dade says friends and family can deposit funds into an inmate trust account through TouchPay. To match the correct account, you need the MDCR facility number 233101, the inmate’s name and the inmate jail number.

Never send money based only on a text, social-media message or unsolicited phone call. Open the official inmate record yourself and verify the jail number first.

Commissary gifts through iCare

For prepackaged commissary gifts, Miami-Dade links to iCare. The county instructs users to select Florida and search by last name or inmate number. MDCR lists iCare support at 888-439-5020.

10 · Records

MDCR Central Records

Miami-Dade allows public records requests to Corrections and Rehabilitation and provides an online request-management system. The county lists Central Records at 2525 NW 62nd St, Suite 4200, Miami, FL 33147.

Published copy fees include 15 cents for a single-sided page, 20 cents for a double-sided page, $1 per certified-copy page and $1 per color page. Requests requiring more than 20 minutes of research or processing can incur a service charge based on staff labor.

The older Corrections page still refers generally to police records for arrests; for current Miami-Dade Sheriff records, use the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Request Reports & Records page. The Sheriff says offense/incident requests are easier to locate when you provide the case number, date, incident location and names involved.

11 · Accuracy & safety

Use Mugshots Carefully: Booking Is Not a Conviction

Mugshots and jail records are sensitive. They can document a booking event, but they can become misleading when an old image is reposted without the court outcome or when the wrong person is identified.

  • Do not describe a listed charge as a proven fact of guilt.
  • Do not assume current custody from an old mugshot.
  • Do not use a same-name or similar-face match without stronger identifiers.
  • Do not harass, threaten, shame or stalk a person based on a booking record.
  • Do not use Jail-Mugshots.org as a consumer report for employment, housing, credit, insurance or other FCRA-regulated eligibility decisions.

If the situation involves immediate danger, use emergency services. For a correctional safety or employee-conduct concern, MDCR lists Security and Internal Affairs at 786-263-6500.

If you are researching Florida booking information more broadly, our Florida mugshots and official search guide explains how local, state and court sources differ.

12 · Choose the right system

Miami-Dade Jail vs Florida Prison vs Federal Custody

One of the most common search mistakes is using the right name in the wrong database.

Which custody system should you search?
SituationBest starting sourceScope
Current Miami-Dade county custodyMiami-Dade Corrections inmate searchCurrent MDCR in-custody records and mugshots.
Miami-Dade criminal court caseMiami-Dade Clerk criminal searchFelony/misdemeanor case and court record information.

Federal prison custodyFederal Bureau of Prisons Inmate LocatorFederal BOP inmate records, not ordinary county-jail custody.

Florida Department of Corrections Offender Search · Federal Bureau of Prisons Inmate Locator

The Florida Department of Corrections explicitly says its offender database covers felony offenders sentenced to state prison or state supervision and does not include offenders sentenced to county jail or county probation. That is why a current Miami-Dade jail search should begin with MDCR, not FDC.

16 · Next step

Bottom Line: Start With the Live MDCR Record

For current Miami-Dade mugshots, start with MDCR’s official in-custody search rather than a reposted image. Verify the person with multiple fields, copy the jail number, then move to the correct service for bond, release, court, communication, money or records.

If the person is no longer in county custody, do not keep forcing the same search. Check the Clerk for the criminal case, Florida Corrections for state custody, or the federal locator for BOP custody as appropriate.
